‘Einer for Alle – One for all‘ – that is the motto of the state parliament in North Rhine-Westphalia (NRW). Pupils from classes HI-22B and FI-22A, accompanied by teachers Claudia Welzel and Pedro Goncalves, experienced what this means during their visit to the NRW state parliament on 14 November 2023. After general information about the state parliament and its work and a visit to the plenary chamber (unfortunately there was no session taking place during our visit), the students met Thomas Kutschaty, member of the state parliament for the north of Essen and deputy federal chairman of the SPD.
During the hour-long discussion, the pupils were able to ask any questions that came to mind. The daily struggle with travelling to school due to the overloaded public transport system, the lack of internship offers for their training and the current discussions about the demonstrations in connection with the conflict in the Middle East, these were all topics of the lively exchange. And in the end, they even exchanged email addresses to stay in touch.
